Series of Prints 'Abscission'
Definition - The separation of a leaf from a plant is the result of a natural change.
Each leaf represents a fond childhood memory of time spent with my grandparents. The way in which nature has a life cycle and so do we. Geometric prints placed on the surface highlight the symmetry and pattern that is hidden in nature, something we do not instantly see. Within the enamelling process there is an element of spontaneity, there is only so much I can control. Another underlying importance mimicking how we cannot control what happens in life. Photographing the leaf and using a mirror image emphasises the circle of life.
I work on personalized pieces and I am currently still experimenting with new materials. I am open to inquiries if you are interested in a personalized piece for yourself or a gift for a loved one.
This installation consists of a large cluster or a swarm of dragonfly. Each dragonfly builds the identity of a family of five generations. By capturing a memory, a moment in time I want to bring an element of that memory to life. It begins with my own generation shown in colour and gradually fading into a sepia tone for the oldest. The fragility of the dragonflies themselves mimic the way in which life itself is fragile.
